The PUBG November 2021 update delivered tactical weapons, DBNO swimming, Taego changes, ranked tweaks, esports features, and major fixes.
In 2026, PUBG’s sandbox has grown loud, fast, and full of toys, yet the November 2021 update still reads like a blueprint. It ran from November 10 to 11 across PST, CET, and KST, and it packed in two new weapons, DBNO swimming, Taego’s chickens, ranked ruleset changes, a PGC 2021 esports hub, a profile overview, a dynamic Blue Zone, store events, and a long list of fixes. For modern survivors, it is a time capsule—and a reminder that small systems can change how a match feels.
🛠️ Two New Tools, Two Very Different Jobs
The Mortar arrived as Taego’s heavy-handed answer to stubborn cover. It occupies a primary slot once looted, deploys only on flat surfaces, and refuses cement, iron, concrete, water, wooden floors, and building interiors. Players press the fire button to deploy, the interaction button to cancel, and wait three seconds for setup. In firing mode the character crouches automatically and cannot move until the mode is released. Ammo must be in the inventory, and each shot has a one-second delay. It can reach from 121m to 700m, spawns inside buildings with its ammo, and stays out of Supply Crates and Secret Rooms. It was available in Normal and Custom Matches but not Ranked Season 14. The Mortar is a stubborn old mule: it wants open ground, a clear arc, and a patient hand.

The M79 took a gentler route. This smoke grenade launcher sits in the pistol slot, fires 40mm Smoke Grenades, weighs 14, and stacks up to five. It spawns across all eight maps, not only Taego, and world spawns come in stacks of one to three, or two to three alongside the M79. Its projectile releases a first smoke effect after hitting an object more than 10m away, followed by a second effect a few seconds later. A close impact under 10m that fails to explode releases only the second smoke after three seconds. It deals zero enemy damage, has a 400m max firing range, and reloads in 3.5 to 4 seconds. Normal and Custom Matches welcomed it; Training Mode did not, to keep smoke from interfering with other players. The M79 is a polite smoke artist—no damage, no drama, just a curtain where players need one.

🌊 DBNO Swimming: A Second Chance in Deep Water
Deep water used to write an instant death sentence for downed players. The update changed that with DBNO Swimming. A player who enters DBNO in water now enters a slow swimming state at half normal speed, giving them a chance to reach shore and be revived. Lung air is not reset on entering DBNO, so a drowning player continues to drown. DBNO players constantly lose HP, and combined with drowning loss they die within 10 seconds underwater. Reviving underwater is impossible, and an ongoing revive cancels when either player goes underwater or moves too much. A swimming DBNO player can still be revived while someone floats on the surface. It is a small mercy, but a memorable one.
🐔 Taego’s Chickens: Calm, Fear, and Death
Taego gained a feathered cast member: the Chicken. The patch framed it as a source of amusement during fierce combat and left the deeper “why” to imagination. Chickens have three states. Calm is the default and most stable mood—calm as a monk, nothing special. Fear triggers flight, or rather a frantic run, when they hear punching, footsteps except prone sounds, gunshots, engine and exhaust noise, or other creatures dying. Death comes when they are hit; they take damage from guns and grenades and then pass on. The Chicken is a gossipy neighbor with a tiny health bar—bless its feathery heart, it never asked for a battlefield.

🗺️ Taego, Paramo, and Ranked Housekeeping
Team Deathmatch presets in Custom Matches added five Taego areas: Palace, Field, Market, Mountain, and Shipyard. Market moved initial spawns from left/right to top/bottom and reduced roof-leading spawn points. Mountain reduced bottom-left spawns and adjusted remaining points within 30m. Ranked rulesets also shifted. Taego’s Blue Zone was adjusted for the 8km map, while Emergency Landing, Emergency Pickup, Comeback BR, Secret Room, and Error Space were unsupported. Emergency Pickup, Self-AED, Secret Room Key, M79, Mortar, C4, Blue Zone Grenade, and Spike Trap were also out. Paramo shortened each Blue Zone phase, increased movement speed, cut total playtime from 21 minutes to 18, spawned more items, and excluded Secret Room Key, Panzerfaust, and the 8x Scope.
🏆 Esports, Profile, and Dynamic Blue Zone
The Esports menu gained a PGC 2021 hub. The Overview tab showed live stream and schedule, tournament structure, the Pick’em Challenge, and the live streaming event. Standings showed team rankings per match. The Halloween theme gave way to a PGC 2021 theme in the main lobby, plane banner, and Erangel, Miramar, and Vikendi graffiti. A profile overview arrived with season stats, last played mode, survival level, weapon mastery, medals, emblems, nameplates, poses, and editable presentation. A button on the Profile Overview page connected the PUBG account and Krafton ID directly from the lobby.

The Dynamic Blue Zone function used survivor counts on Sanhok and Karakin. Phase 2 activated under 30 survivors, Phase 3 under 18, Phase 4 under 10, and Phases 5 and 6 under 3. A message explained that the Blue Zone delay had been reduced because of the decreased survivor count.
🛍️ Store, Passes, and the Long Wait
Survivor Pass: CRAZY NIGHT ended with the update on November 11, 2021, across PST, CET, and KST. A new Survivor Pass was not planned until March 2022, with in-game events promised to fill the gap. Your Shop returned from late November to mid-December 2021. Sales windows included WSUS, Singles’ Day, PGC 2021, GODV, and Black Friday, each with regional start and end times. The patch noted that sales periods could change.

🔧 Bug Fixes and Quality-of-Life
The fix list touched DBNO edge cases, including Self-AED use after water exits, carrying disconnected downed enemies, and reviving disconnected teammates. It corrected inventory scrolling, observer crosshair behavior in Freecam, world map team lists, driver-seat shooting exploits, teamkill messages for downed teammates, sticky bombs and C4 attaching to riders, Motor Glider backseat damage, gameplay volume for Panzerfausts and grenades, matchmaking cancel errors, weapon holstering after healing in a driver’s seat, observer gunshot audio, and general Erangel and Paramo bugs. Cosmetic clipping fixes covered hoodies, shirts, leggings, boots, gloves, and the Night Hunter Mask. Some updates add content. This one added conversations—and a few feathered critics.
According to coverage from Polygon, PUBG updates often matter less for raw item count than for how each mechanic reshapes player decisions, and that lens fits this November 2021 patch well: the Mortar rewarded planning and open-ground positioning, the M79 expanded nonlethal utility across maps, and DBNO swimming softened one of the game’s harshest environmental punishments without removing danger. Read as a whole, the patch shows how systems like pacing, traversal, and information pressure can evolve through targeted adjustments rather than a complete overhaul.
