Super People battle royale faces a final shutdown on Feb 23 after a brief, ill-fated revival.

The cycle of live-service hopefuls dying young has become grimly familiar, but even by 2026’s harsh standards, the saga of Super People stands out. First released in 2022, the battle royale gained a modest following yet was shut down months later. A surprise revival in 2025 promised a fresh start, but now, just five months after that relaunch, the game is closing for a second—and seemingly final—time.

Described loosely by many as ‘PUBG with superpowers,’ Super People offered a third-person combat sandbox where players could toggle to first-person if they wished. The hook came from more than a dozen playable “super soldiers,” each equipped with unique abilities that layered strategy atop the standard loot-and-shoot formula. This twist earned early buzz: in 2022, peak concurrent Steam counts exceeded 45,000.

Despite that promising start, the game struggled to retain players. Competition from PUBG, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Fortnite proved too intense, while accusations of pay-to-win monetization soured the experience for many. By mid-2023, developer Wonder People announced the sunset of the original Super People, and the servers switched off permanently in August of that year.

A resurrection seemed unlikely. Yet in 2025, Wonder People unveiled a reimagined version. The game director reflected, “I have found myself asking the same questions every day: ‘If only we had done things a little differently.’” With that mindset, a closed beta ran over the summer, followed by an early access re-release in September. The studio pledged stronger anti-cheat systems, tighter balance, and a more rewarding in-game economy.

Initial interest saw a few thousand concurrent players on Steam, but the numbers plummeted within weeks. By November 2025, the developer confirmed that the second attempt was ending, setting a shutdown date for February 3, 2026. That date came and went, yet a handful of dedicated stragglers found the servers still running—an unexpected reprieve that delayed the inevitable.

Now, the final chapter has been written. Wonder People announced today that Super People will officially go offline on Monday, February 23, 2026. The roadmap to closure is already in motion: refund requests for recent currency purchases opened today, new downloads from storefronts will be blocked starting February 13, and on February 23 at midnight, the servers will fall silent.

Adding to the disappointment, Wonder People confirmed that a planned new game mode—which had been in development before the termination decision—will never see the light of day. “We would like to offer our deepest apologies for not being able to release the new game mode that was under development prior to the service termination,” the statement read. “Although we made every effort to provide a better experience until the very end, internal circumstances prevented us from delivering this content, which is deeply regrettable for our entire operations team.”

For the community, the broken promise stings less than the broader pattern. The game’s second shutdown feels emblematic of an era where multiplayer titles launch with grand ambitions only to vanish before finding an audience. Even the brief server extension after February 3 added a surreal twist—players knew the end was near, yet couldn’t quite log off. By February 23, that lingering attachment will be cut for good.

In the end, Super People’s story mirrors many of its peers: a burst of early excitement, a retreat, a second chance, and ultimately a quiet exit. It’s a reminder that in 2026’s crowded battle royale landscape, having superpowers simply isn’t enough to survive.
